Maxus eTerron 9: Europe’s First AWD Electric Pickup Arrives in the UK
Meta Description: Discover the Maxus eTERRON 9—the UK’s first all-wheel-drive electric pickup. Learn about specs, availability, clever features like V2L, and tax considerations.
What Is the Maxus eTERRON 9?
The Maxus eTERRON 9 is the first-ever all-wheel-drive, fully electric pickup available in Europe. Revealed at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hannover in 2024, it's set to arrive in the UK by early 2025.
Key Specs & Performance
- Battery & Range: 102 kWh LFP battery with up to 267 miles (WLTP)
- Dual Motor AWD: 436 hp total; 0–62 mph in just 5.8 seconds
- Towing & Payload: 3,500 kg braked towing; 620 kg payload (with Utility trim expected to offer 1,050 kg)
- Suspension & Load Access: Air suspension with “Easy Load” mode (lowers by 60 mm), and drop-down rear wall for load length up to 2.4 m
Clever & Practical Features
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): Multiple in-bed and frunk sockets, plus a 6.6 kW external outlet—ideal for tools, camping, or job sites
- Frunk: 236-litre front trunk for secure storage
- Interior Comfort: 12.3" digital screens, massage seats, leather upholstery, and smart storage zones
- Off-Road Capability: 6 terrain modes and 400+ custom settings; underbody camera system for “transparent” chassis view
Availability & Pricing in the UK
Orders for the Maxus eTERRON 9 opened in late 2024, with first UK deliveries expected from January 2025. Pricing starts around £53,000 + VAT, rising to approximately £63,000 for high-spec variants.
Commercial Classification & Tax
The standard model (620 kg payload) does not currently meet the UK’s 1-tonne payload threshold for van tax status. However, Maxus is launching a Utility version in 2025 with a 1,050 kg payload to ensure commercial vehicle classification.
This means the Utility trim will be eligible for VAT recovery, capital allowances, and more favourable Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) rates for business users—important factors post-April 2025 tax changes.
Why the eTERRON 9 Stands Out
- Europe’s first all-wheel-drive electric pickup
- Blends high performance with true utility
- Innovative features like V2L and load bed adaptability
- Strong appeal to tradespeople and electric fleets
Conclusion
The Maxus eTERRON 9 is more than a novelty—it’s a bold new direction for pickups in the UK and Europe. With serious power, long range, and intelligent design, it sets a high benchmark for electric work vehicles. And with a Utility variant meeting commercial tax rules, it’s not just capable—it’s clever for business too.
